4 ways to get your site into shape for the New Year

Whatever your market, the online world is more important than ever, and we’ve got four ways you can make your site perform.

Number 1

For your international site, sitemaps are vital. No matter what structure you use, whether subfolders, subdomains or separate sites, it needs to be clear for your visitor, how to navigate around your site. Sitemaps are also important for your sites’ indexing and how Google ranks you. The clearer your site map, the more likely Google is to rank your geo-targeted pages on their corresponding localised search engine.

Number 2

Internal content duplication makes user journeys unfriendly and monotonous. It can also result in penalisation by Google. Work on minimizing duplication across your different regional pages. Also make sure that you use your “ht access” folder to let Google know the preferred version of your site, encouraging re-directs.

Number 3

Social media marketing is massive, and next year it’s only going to get bigger. Don’t carry out your social media campaigns in isolation. Make sure they all connect with each other and with your site. Pick the platforms that are right for your product, making sure a social media visitor will be led to your website, and vice versa.

Number 4

This all fits in with your on-site content – your (as it should be) targeted, dynamic, visual content. Don’t be afraid of trying something new, whether its video, sound bites or even high-brow articles. Just think when you create it – would I share it. One thing to remember, with Googles’ shift toward authorship in mind, is to use the authorship tag on all your site content, that way you can really help build the authority of your brand.
