How Beneficial is Rich Link Building?

It’s a commonly held opinion that links with high levels of authority and great metrics are the holy grail of link building. What has emerged recently however, is that while rich links are indeed valuable, they should not be used exclusively. After all, Google likes to see a natural link profile.

Quality vs.Quantity

Linking domain authority certainly has an impact on the domain authority of a site, and as such, its ranking performance. The temptation is therefore to have a large volume of rich links, because this will surely boost your own authority. The truth however, is that an excessive number of high authority links won’t necessarily do you any good at all.

After a certain point, a large volume of rich links will appear to be unnatural, particularly if they are at odds with the authority of your own site. If we think about this logically, what site is going to have nothing but really high quality backlinks?

Act Natural

The answer to the problem then, is that a carefully balanced and evenly distributed link profile is what Google’s algorithms want to see, and this is what you need to have. It’s only natural to have a spread of authority ratings across your incoming links, and any successful international SEO must be aware of this.

Rich links will always be valuable; you’ll never reach a high level of authority without them, but they are not the only type of link you should focus your strategy on.
