A recent study has revealed that 68% of marketers are planning on increasing their investment in SEO activity in 2012, illustrating the continuing shift of marketing spend from offline to online channels.

The study, from Social Media Examiner, also showed that SEO is second highest in the list of online marketing activities which marketers are planning on participating in this year, second only to email marketing.
Digital Marketing Investment in 2012
The focus of the study was on the attitude toward social media of companies in 2012 and to what extent they planned to use and invest in it. Some of the key findings on that front were:
  • 83% of companies believe social media is an important part of their marketing
  • Top of the list of priorities for research and investment is video marketing
  • Google+ is high on the agenda, with 67% of marketers planning on increasing their activity on the platform
  • For marketers, the top five social media networks were Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs and YouTube
It’s clear that, despite many scare stories and significant Google updatesrecently, marketers still see SEO as an important investment and one which can yield an excellent, long term and sustainable return on investment if carried out correctly.
By establishing yourself as a strong brand you can gain success across various channels, with great exposure to new customers through search and the ability to develop those relationships on social media platforms. This interaction can help deliver an excellent business return, a fact recognised in this study by the increasing amount of investment being made.
